Types of Properties for Rent

Choosing the most suitable property for your needs

Before you begin to look for a rental, it’s important to understand the different types of rental properties on the market. Depending on your lifestyle, needs, and wants, one of the following property types will suit you best:

House

There are different types of houses, such as single-detached, semi-detached, back-split, bungalow, and duplex. The number of bedrooms and bathrooms will vary depending on the size of the house. Most homes feature a front yard, backyard, and garage.

Apartment

An apartment is a residential unit within an apartment building. The building is typically owned or operated by a property management company. There are different types of apartment units within an apartment building, such as a bachelor suite, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom.

Condominium

Often referred to as a “condo,” a condominium is a complex of units that are individually owned. The owner of the condo who rents out their unit is the landlord, as opposed to the property management company being a landlord, as is the case with apartments. Condos and apartments are very similar, with the only difference being the ownership of the unit.

Townhouse

A townhouse is a hybrid between a house and a condo. Townhouses are typically uniform houses with two or more stories that share one or more walls with other independently owned units.
