Tips for Working Remotely During COVID-19
Work From Home Strategy
Many businesses across Canada have established a work-from-home strategy in order to minimize physical interactions and do their part in flattening the curve of COVID-19.
If you’re new to working remotely, here are five tips to help you stay focused and productive while maintaining a healthy work-life balance:
CREATE A WORK SPACE
Dedicate a room or table in your home that will act as your workspace. This will help you separate home from work and will allow you to be more focused.
MAINTAIN YOUR REGULAR ROUTINE
Maintaining your regular work routine is key when working from home. It’s important to continue to wake up and go to bed at the same time each day, work your regular work hours, and take your breaks as you normally would if you were in the office. This will help you compartmentalize your days.
TAKE BREAKS
When working from the comfort of your home, it’s natural to work longer than the typical eight-hour day—especially during a pandemic. However, it’s important to maintain your routine by scheduling regular breaks, taking a lunch, and getting up every so often for a quick stretch. Set aside time, too, to mentally decompress after the day is done.
MAKE A TO-DO LIST
To-do lists help you visualize and keep track of your tasks for the day. They can also provide encouragement and a sense of accomplishment when you’re able to check off a completed task.
DRESS LIKE YOU'RE AT WORK
Even though you’re not going into the office, you should dress like you are. At the very least, you should change out of your pyjamas. This can help you mentally separate home from work.
