Ever wondered why you were not able to pay your application fees online? Now you can! Effective February 1st, 2021, The Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) has launched a new payment program in Ontario that allows both landlords and tenants to pay application fees online.
Applicants can now use various payment methods, including Visa, MasterCard or debit card, to pay for most application types, with the option to file their application via email.
Sean Weir, Executive Chair at Tribunals Ontario, stated, "Ontarians expect to be able to pay for services online, and the Landlord and Tenant Board can now meet that demand. Online payment is a quick, convenient and secure way to pay LTB fees. This new option is one more way the LTB is taking a digital-first approach to services."
If landlords or tenants decide to opt-out of this program, they can still pay their fees by certified cheque, money order, or by providing their credit card information on their application form. The option to send an application form by fax, mail or courier is available for those who prefer to do so.
Tenants or landlords who can't afford the application fee can request a fee waiver once deemed financially eligible by the Practice Direction on Fee Waiver.
